Citation Mustang Charter: Miami to New York
Published
The Citation Mustang exists to make the jet math work for four people. Textron Aviation (Cessna) built nearly five hundred of them between 2006 and 2017 as the sensible entry to jet travel, and the charter market has kept them busy ever since: four proper club seats, honest handling, and operating costs that let a Miami–New York quote start with a one.
It is not the quick way north — at 340 ktas, Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport (OPF) to Teterboro Airport (TEB) runs just under three hours — but it is reliably the cheap way to do it in a twin-engine jet: $10,000–$15,000 one-way, all fees included. For a foursome that values the private terminal more than half an hour of cruise, that trade sells itself.

Four seats, one fair price
The Mustang's cabin is a study in enough: four club seats with fold-out tables, 4 ft 6 in of height that seats you comfortably even if it will not let you stroll, and windows big enough that the Intracoastal, the Outer Banks and the long approach over the Hudson do their work. A fifth passenger can technically ride up front beside the pilot when the operator allows it, but four is the airplane's true number, and it does four very well.
Luggage travels better than you might guess: 63 cu ft split between the nose and a tail locker — more than the newer Citation M2 carries — enough for four roller bags, four carry-ons and a pair of golf bags besides. Range asks for more attention: 1,150 nm means this 1,000-nm leg is flown nonstop with reserves, and on a rare day of fierce headwinds southbound an operator may plan a ten-minute splash of fuel. Northbound, the winds mostly help.
This is the airplane for the trip that would otherwise go first class: a couple and another couple, a parent with two kids and a nanny, a golf four with a tee time. It is also the fleet's great empty-leg generator — Mustangs reposition constantly around Florida, and a flexible day either side of your date can turn up one-way pricing well below the published floor. Worth asking every time.
- Estimated one-way quotes from $10,000 — the corridor's twin-jet price floor
- Just under three hours in the air; plan the day around it
- 63 cu ft of baggage — generous room for golf bags and strollers
- Short runways welcome: Westchester County Airport (HPN), Morristown and Republic Airport (FRG) all comfortably in reach
The honest comparison
Two aircraft sit one shelf up. The Citation M2 — the Mustang's successor in spirit — flies the leg about fifteen minutes faster with a newer cabin for roughly a thousand dollars more; the Phenom 100EV adds a taller cabin and a proper enclosed lavatory at similar money. The Mustang answers both with price and availability — often two or three tails to choose from where rivals offer one. If the schedule is yours to set, let the quotes decide it.
However the comparison lands, the booking works the same way: FAA Part 135 operators only, an itemized price before you commit, and a fifteen-minute arrival window at the FBO instead of an airport morning. Give us the four names and the dates; the Mustang quote usually comes back first, and on this route it is very often the one that gets flown.

Frequently asked questions
Why is the Mustang the cheapest twin-jet on this route?
Small engines, light weight and a mature, well-amortized fleet keep hourly costs down, and those savings pass straight into the quote: $10,000–$15,000 one-way against $14,000-plus for the mid-class light jets. You give up cruise speed — about half an hour on this leg — and cabin height, nothing else that matters to a party of four.
How long will the flight actually take?
Just under three hours is the honest planning number — the Mustang cruises at 340 ktas, and this is a 1,000-nautical-mile leg. Northbound tailwinds regularly bring it closer to 2 h 45 m in winter. Board at 9:00 at Opa-locka and you are in a car at Teterboro by lunchtime.
Does the Citation Mustang have a toilet?
No — and we say so up front. The Mustang trades the lavatory for its price point, which is why it suits this route's sub-three-hour block and a known crowd. Most passengers simply plan around it at the FBO. If that is a dealbreaker, the Phenom 100EV adds an enclosed lavatory for about a thousand dollars more.
What luggage can four of us bring?
A surprising amount: 63 cu ft between the nose bay and tail locker — four medium cases, four soft carry-ons, and room left for two golf bags or a stroller. Everything loads externally, so the cabin stays clear. Oversized items like surfboards or bicycles will not fit; tell us and we will size up.
Are Mustang empty legs common between Florida and the Northeast?
Among the most common of any jet type — the fleet is large and repositions constantly. Empty legs post with a day or two's notice and can cut the one-way figure substantially below $10,000, with the usual trade: the schedule belongs to the airplane. If your dates flex, register interest and we will flag matches.
